High-Level Policy Meeting of AFRA

The AFRA High Level Policy Meeting was held in Cairo, Egypt, from 05 to 08 December 2022. This meeting included two segments namely the Technical Meeting of AFRA National Coordinators from 05 to 06 December 2022 and the Ministerial Meeting from 07 to 08 December 2022.

The AFRA High Level Policy Meeting was organized as a follow-up to the first of its kind AFRA Policy Review Seminar which took place in Aswan, Egypt, in November 2007. AFRA National Coordinators reviewed the progress made in the implementation of the Plan of Action adopted during the AFRA High Level Policy Review Seminar in November 2007. Additionally, Ministers responsible for nuclear science and technology, Ambassadors and Heads of Delegations from AFRA Government Parties participated in the Ministerial Meeting. They commended AFRA for the milestones achieved since 2007 with the development/endorsement of AFRA Regional Strategic Framework, the establishment of the AFRA Fund and AFRA Management Committees including the launch of academic training, such as Master and PhD sandwich programmes. They encouraged Member States to accede to the revised AFRA Agreement, to pay their contributions to the AFRA Fund to address the increasing regional needs and priorities. They also encouraged AFRA to enhance partnership building and resource mobilization by reaching out to new partners including the private sector.

The Ministerial meeting of the AFRA High Level Policy Meeting concluded with the adoption of a new AFRA Plan of Action and Political Declaration which set future directions for AFRA.
